Childbirth Connection is a national not-for-profit organization founded in 1918 as Maternity Center Association. Our mission is to improve the quality and value of maternity care through consumer engagement and health system transformation. Childbirth Connection promotes safe, effective and satisfying evidence-based maternity care and is a voice for the needs and interests of childbearing families.

The About Us section of our website provides background information on our organization and our accomplishments over the years on behalf of mothers, babies and families.

A high-quality, high-value maternity care system is within reach, and childbearing women are the most important stakeholders to drive system change.

Childbirth Connection brought together more than 100 health care leaders – from delivery systems, providers, and consumers to health plans and purchasers, liability insurers and quality experts – to develop two direction-setting reports, "2020 Vision for a High-Quality, High-Value Maternity Care System" and "Blueprint for Action." These reports were the culmination of over two years' collaborative multi-stakeholder work aimed at reversing troubling trends and achieving high-quality, high-value maternity care.

Transforming Maternity Care offers full access to these reports and tracks and coordinates efforts to implement recommendations. Visit the site today to learn how you can be part of the transformation.

Also be sure to visit the Transforming Maternity Care Blog. The blog highlights innovative quality improvement efforts, introduces readers to inspiring leaders, analyzes health care trends, and shares opportunities and resources. Join the conversation to transform maternity care.

Listening to MothersSM III (May 2013) is the third national survey exploring women's experiences in pregnancy and childbirth. Commissioned by Childbirth Connection, conducted by Harris Interactive, and funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the survey polled 2,400 women who gave birth in U.S. hospitals from 2011 to 2012. Results show that medically intensive experiences are typical, and evidence-based practices are underutilized. Childbearing women need better support and knowledge to navigate their maternity care.
